Japanese artist Hirotoshi Ito‘s sculptural works are a surreal contradiction of substances that apparently should not exist, and yet here they are. The smooth stones of varying shape and dimensions are inserted with zippers that open to reveal hidden items such as collections of coins or marbles, although some of the more popular works include a rather menacing toothy mouth. Ito finds the stones in a riverbed near his house and works with all the natural form of each item to shape the pouch and spectacle indoors.
Ito had a solo show a month in Little High Gallery at Tokyo known as “Mysterious Stone! ” and you’ll be able to see more of his continuing rock breaking work on Facebook.
